Events

The British Balloon Museum and Library hold Inflation Days so that members and the general public can view some of the collection. The envelopes are taken out of storage and inflated by "Friends" of the Museum. On the day there is a small charge for attending the event to cover and raise funds for the Museum.

Apart from the inflation days, envelopes are taken by "Friends" to various meets around the country. Sometimes they are accompanied by a display of items from archive material.

The British Balloon Museum and Library hopes to attend balloon meets during the year 2006. Some items from the Museum may appear at balloon meets, but these may be few and far between, and taken along by Council members or Friends of the Museum.

  • Various envelopes are with keepers around the country and may make appearances at meets around the UK, as soon as we know where and when, the dates will be posted here.
  • 4th January 2008. Grand Launch The BBM&L Display at West Berkshire Museum. Friends of the Museum are invited to the launch from 6.00pm to 8.00pm at the display in the Museum.
  • Icicle 2008 5th & 6th January. The first meet of the year will happen at Warren Farm with the trade display at a new venue, the Elcot Park Hotel, between Newbury and Hungerford. The BBM&L will be attending both events with our display boards and a stand at Elcot Park. The new Museum display at West Berkshire Museum will be open to the public from 10.00am until 4.00pm on the Saturday.
  • Inflation Day 2008. Inflation Day will be on the 10th of May at Kirkby Lonsdale near Kendal in Cumbria at the rugby Club.
  • Other dates will follow when known.
